BEHIND THE PERSON
In life, sometimes the hardest battles to overcome are those that challenge our trauma and deep-rooted desires. In my 20s, I’ve encountered many lows in the pursuit of validation from peers, family and romantic partners.
Afraid to reach my full potential and allow myself to detach, I became comfortable in being a caged bird, trapped in my victimhood of self-deprecation for unreciprocated love.
However, I’ve grown to understand that the unconditional love I desire, has always been readily available and attainable within me.
Through healing, my sense of self and inner-light has been restored, and in shedding the unhealed versions of me, I am free. No longer imprisoned to self-debilitating cycles or others’ projected ideologies, finally, I can spread my wings and take flight.
No looking down, and no looking back – only upward and onward.
HERxLight is the embodiment of my dreams unrealized and a commitment to living my life courageously, unapologetically, and in the illumination of my highest and whole self. And through my raw story-telling and vulnerability while on my journey, I hope I can inspire others to seize theirxlight and embrace their full potential.
I completed my Bachelor’s in African American Studies and Disability Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles. My research focused on the intersection of race, dis/ability and mental health, specifically the experiences of Black dis/abed wxmen. At UCLA, the initial seeds of my purpose were planted and from there, my passion for and commitment to holistic healing and wellness began to sprout.
My passion for coaching throughout my professional career at UCLA persisted after college, and I found myself wanting to reconnect with it. I conducted research, designed a tailored program and established HERxCoach, a personal development coaching service centered on holistic healing methods for wxmen of color navigating barriers towards wellness.
In deciding to choose myself over the pursuit of another harmful romantic bond, I finally put a stop to a reoccurring cycle and embarked on a new path in my life and healing journey. Towards the close of 2023, I began to reevaluate what I wanted and needed out of life, and in seeking out other examples of women who reflected my own desires, I realized the importance of sharing my own journey – hence the creation of HERxLight.
